Major memory manufacturers like Samsung and Micron are reportedly reducing DDR4 production, according to IT Home and MoneyDJ citing Nikkei. Micron's Executive VP Sumit Sadana has confirmed that the company has issued end-of-life (EOL) notices for DDR4 and LPDDR4 memory to PC and data center customers.
Sources indicate that Micron will cease DDR4 shipments within the next 2-3 months, with production expected to gradually phase out after Q1 2026. The company plans to use the anticipated price increases to support future R&D investments.
Despite the phase-out, Micron will maintain DDR4 and LPDDR4 supply for automotive, industrial, and networking sector clients who require stable, high-quality memory solutions. Sadana emphasized that the current DDR4 supply shortage is likely to continue.
Market reports reveal significant price fluctuations, with Micron allegedly increasing June DDR4 prices by 50%, causing spot prices for 8Gb and 16Gb modules to surge. Industry analysts describe the DDR4 market as chaotic, with some prices doubling. Samsung reportedly implemented a 20% price increase for DDR4 in early May after negotiating new contracts with major customers.
